Uplift local voices, create awareness and raise ocean literacy

Bring your research

On Stage

On Stage provides an arts driven workshop dedicated to your individual research.

It results in viualizing and staging your local voices and sciences through illustration and play acting. The presentation brings together scientists, politicians, stakeholders and communities beyond official councils to learn from each other and find joint solutions.

Target group: research groups, stakeholders and community

The 3-part event (Research - exhibition - stage) research on fishermen in crisis, reading on stage and exhibition provides a platform for scientists, politicians, stakeholders and communities. RESEARCH
Los Viejos and the Sea
was inspired by the research of the anthropologist ︎︎︎Tanja Granzow, who interviewed local fishermen of Águilas, a small community at the Mediterranean. They spoke about their work, family backgrounds, and the severe problems they are facing in a changing environment.

EXHIBITION
This research inspired the illustrators ︎︎︎Katrin Funcke, Kristina Heldmann and Stefan Michaelsen to create a series of storytelling paintings on local fishery.

STAGE
Actor ︎︎︎Michael Masula created a text collage based on the fishermen´s statements and excerpts of Ernest Hemingway's novel The Old Man and the Sea to weave the stories into a fictional narrative. On stage, two performers are reading the text collage in the form of a dialogue. They are seated on opposite sides of a table, representing the tensions between different stakeholders in fishery.
