From childhood on I recognised the power of arts to connect to others and to design the desired world.
Drawing, singing and acting were my favourite expressions, but when I entered the art academy I recognised that even related disciplines tend to separate themselves in distinct boxes while I was longing for openness in between the fields. Somehow I had the feeling that there was a hidden potential to be discovered for me by linking people and disciplines.
Therefore as a student I started projects with the illustrator Katrin Funcke on subjects of common interests like a fashion show or role-playing for a film. We involved diverse students and teachers to work on it on a level playing field. Theses comprehensive projects were artistically and technically very successful, inspired friendships and cooperations, and lead to a more open and inspiring campus feeling.
Since then the support and interest of cooperators and allies from art, design, technology and science encouraged me to initiate further ventures of impact. For example I started with my sister, the scientist Annika Guse, the international project ¡vamos, simbiosis!. It aims to reconnect people with the sea work on a symbiotic lifestyle that benefits both humans and ecosystems.
We apply a technique we call Thinking Hands (TH). It means collaborative drawing for people of different backgrounds as a tool to overcome barriers like disciplines, language, status and age. It developed from Bettine, an artist group, that I cofounded in 2008 at the „Cultural Foundation Schloss Wiepersdorf“. We transferred the technique to the academic science and research at Heidelberg University working with researchers and students from different disciplines and laboratories.
From 2012 to 2015 I did my doctoral thesis on TH called „Thinking Hands – A Social Design Approach“ at the University of Applied arts in Vienna. And I was very proud to be selected in 2017 to introduce it at the science contest „Falling Walls Lab, Germany“.
My current and upcoming projects like „Heroic Followers“, „¡vamossimbiosis!“ and „Yellow Air“ focus on societal urgent needs and contemporary zeitgeist. I intent. I believe in art as an emotional and effective mediator between disciplines and society. To contribute as an artist to a bright and sustainable future is my goal.
